mdw Repository

Public access to mdw Repository contents

Description: mdw Repository provides researchers with a robust infrastructure for research data management and ensures accessibility of research data during and after completion of research projects, thus, providing a quality boost to contemporary and future research.
The mdw provides a public access point to the openly released subset of metadata and data - the mdw Repository (https://repo.mdw.ac.at). The metadata are open for harvesting and integration in via a SPARQL endpoint (https://repo.mdw.ac.at:3030) and and OAI service (http://repo.mdw.ac.at/cgi-bin/OAI-XMLFile-2.1/XMLFile/mdw/oai.pl). See technical overview.
mdw Repository is managed by the Zentralen Informatikdienst together with the research service and the university library at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Wien, Austria.

Two backend systems support the actual data management:

  • mdwRDM (Research Data Management)
  • mdwDAM (Digital Asset Management)

Both mdwDAM and mdwRDM are internal backend systems for managing the mdw's digital assets. All employees of the mdw have read access, write access is only granted after training and signing of a depositors agreement.

The repository backends are open for self-deposit by authorised users. Content distributed as deposited for some (research) projects while we offer enhanced curation – e.g., creation of new formats, enhancement of documentation for other research projects too

In general, depositors must be members of the University of Music and Performing Arts. By default access is restricted via LDAP (staff only).

External depositors (e.g. members of organizations cooperating on a research project or external project team members) can be granted temporary access to mdwRDM management backend but VPN access is required. Only the internal project lead can grant this external access permissions.

The depositing rules aim to ensure the quality of data the repository holds, the university ensures the long-term availability of all data assigned with persistent identifiers (URN available, DOI in planning).
