Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP)

Adobe Bridge

Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) is an open, extensible standard supporting any RDF compliant metadata scheme. In 2012 XMP became an ISO standard (ISO 16684-1:2012).

Applications either store XMP metadata in the file itself ('embedded metadata', 'self-referencing asset'), or in a separate so-called 'sidecar file'.

The following file formats support embedding XMP metadata:

  • Image formats
